For all of us who attended our January meeting, the Roy Nagatoshi demonstration on shimpaku grafting techniques was an eye opener. When nudging and developing a tree to appear mature and old, grafting appears to be one way to speed up the process—if speeding up is possible. Leaving this to natural development takes time—maybe even more than a lifetime. As Roy showed, however, grafting is an alternative.
