February sees our first demonstrator for the year: Bob Pressler from Kirmua Bonsai and Landscape Nursery.

He will be talking about soils and transplanting. This is the lead into spring and a good time to start thinking about which of your trees need to be transplanted. Bob will give us pointers on how best to do this. If you are in need of bonsai soil, our club sales desk expects to have a supply on hand at our February meeting.

Speaking of spring—although it is still early—the warm weather has been bringing on spurts of new growth. Check your wiring! Is it cutting into the bark? This is a step that is so easily overlooked, especially for trees you wired last autumn. Now would be time to get the wires off before the new leaves come out or the new juniper green growth starts.
