June was the Descanso Bonsai Society’s Annual Exhibition. It was good to see many of our members attending. Several members took advantage of their sale area and found trees and pots. The exhibition was an inspiration for us all.

Three of our club members (including me)—all also members of the Descanso Bonsai Society—displayed trees there. Two of us were in the novice section of the show; both won awards.

David Whiteside was this year’s winner of the Dick Wydman Award and 1st in the deciduous 24-inch and under class with his Liquidambar. Meanwhile, I tied for 2nd place with my Juniper procumbens in the conifer 24 inch and under class. Also, club member Rick Naber, who took the Dick Wydman Award last year, was displaying this year in the main exhibition. The Wydman Award is for the best tree developed from raw stock by a novice.
