O ur May meeting saw Jim Barrett as our guest demonstrator. We changed the format for the evening from a demonstration to a tree critique (see pages 4 – 5). Members brought in their bonsai trees in bonsai pots or training pots and Jim gave us pointers on how to improve our trees, which was a big help for us all.
It is important to not only look at the design of your tree but to also view it in perspective to the style of the pot and its placement in the pot. It is this overall balance that was pointed out to us. Thank you, Jim.
This weekend was the Descanso Bonsai Society annual show, both Saturday and Sunday, June 13th and 14th. CVBS member Rick Naber had two trees on display, one of which took 3rd place honors in the judging. There are many spring shows so take in as many as you can. See page 8 of this newsletter for the calendar.
The Golden State Bonsai Federation Convention this year will be held in Riverside from October 29th to November 1st. Registration starts July 1st so check their website (www.gsbf-bonsai.org) for the convention details.
