June 2017 Newsletter

Our May 2017 meeting featured bonsai master Jim Bar-rett critiquing trees that members plan to show in our June 24 Summer Exhibition. Jim gave us guidance on how to make our trees show ready, including how to prepare the tree, the soil, and the pot. He also reviewed a few non-show trees. He worked with the tree owner to explain the styling needed. (See page 4 of this newsletter for the full report.)

Our Summer Exhibition is organized in conjunction with “Serendipity,” an arts exhibit featuring local artists sponsored by the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley. CVBS is a member of the Arts Council, and our exhibition will run concurrently with one day of its multi-week show. The shows will be at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts in Thousand Oaks (details below). In addition to the art and bonsai exhibits on the 24th, the Council is holding a recep-tion that evening. We are contributing to the reception.

This event is coming up very quickly—June 24 is just around the corner. Preparation for our event is well on its way, but there is still a lot to do and we need every-one’s help.
