H ead’s up, everyone! April is a busy month for Conejo Valley Bonsai Socie-ty members. In addition to our regular monthly meeting on the 19th, we have a nursery crawl field trip scheduled for Satur-day the 21st. And in your bonsai yard, it’s time for final potting and careful attention to deciduous trees (see below and also Barrett’s Bonsai Tips, page 3).

First, our demonstrator on Thursday, April 19, will be Bob Pressler. He will be styling a cedar. Bob has just been voted president of the California Bonsai Society. Congratulations Bob. He is also a member of CVBS and the owner of Kimura Bonsai Nursery, which we will be visiting during our nursery crawl.

Second, don’t forget our upcoming field trip on Saturday, April 21. We will visit two major bonsai nurseries in the Los Angeles area: Roy Nagatoshi’s Fuji Bonsai Nursery in Sylmar and Pressler’s Kimura Bonsai Nursery in Northridge. At our regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 19, we will confirm who will participate in the nursery crawl and work out details of carpooling. This is a great opportunity for those who are new to bonsai or to the LA area to become familiar with two of the most important bonsai nurseries around. And for everyone to acquire quality material for their collections.
